Saṃbandhiśibda (संबन्धिशिब्द).—Relative term; the term refers to words connected in such a way by their meaning that if one of them is uttered, the other has to be anticipated and understood; e. g. पितृ, भ्रातृ, मातृ, भार्या (pitṛ, bhrātṛ, mātṛ, bhāryā) etc. cf. तद्यथा । संबन्धिशब्दाः । मातरि वर्तितव्यम् । पितरि शूश्रूषितव्यम् । न चोच्यते स्वस्यां मातरि स्वस्मिन्वा पितरि इति । (tadyathā | saṃbandhiśabdāḥ | mātari vartitavyam | pitari śūśrūṣitavyam | na cocyate svasyāṃ mātari svasminvā pitari iti |) cf. also M.Bh. on I 1.71 ; cf. also प्रधानमुपसर्जनं च संबन्धि-शब्दावेतौ (pradhānamupasarjanaṃ ca saṃbandhi-śabdāvetau) M.
