Samaśayana (समशयन) refers to a type of Śayana (‘reclining pose’), as defined according to texts dealing with śilpa (arts and crafs), known as śilpaśāstras.—When the image is shown flat on the back, with the body and head reclined fully, the arms and legs stretched out straight, and the eyes closed, it is in samaśayana. This posture is suitable for Abhicārika Śayana Viṣṇu Mūrti.
