Samāsāntaśābdādeśa (समासान्तशाब्दादेश).—A substitute for a word or its part at the end of a compound prescribed for certain specified words under specified conditions; e. g. ज्ञु (jñu) for जानु, ऊधन् (jānu, ūdhan) for ऊधस्, धन्वन् (ūdhas, dhanvan) for धनुस्, जानि (dhanus, jāni) for जाया, गन्धि (jāyā, gandhi) for गन्ध, पाद् (gandha, pād) and पद् (pad), for पाद, दत् (pāda, dat) for दन्त, ककुद् (danta, kakud) for ककुद (kakuda); cf.
