Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationSamālocyā (समालोच्या) refers to “consulting among themselves”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.31 (“Description of Śiva’s magic”).—Accordingly, as the Gods went to Brahmā: “On hearing it and consulting among themselves (samālocyā—samālocyājagmurmama) the gods came to my Assembly. After duly bowing to me they informed me about the details. On hearing the words of the gods about censuring Śiva, O sage, I the reciter of the Vedas spoke to them in an aggrieved tone. [...]”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
