Salilaśrama (सलिलश्रम) refers to a type of training exercise in preparation of ancient Indian martial arts (dhanurveda), as defined in the 11th century Manasollāsa written by Someśvara III.—Apart from wrestling (mallayudha) there were other exercises that were recommended in order to increase physical strength as a preparation to the mastering of martial arts. These exercises were, for example salilaśrama or “swimming in a tank, lake or river”.
