Esp. understood of an English or a European gentleman. 3 A term of compellation corresponding with Sir, Mister, Mistress, Madam &c. 4 Used in comp. and as affixed to the name, title, or designation of the person; as pāṭīlasāhēba, rājāsāhēba, subhēdārasāhēba, dhanīsāhēba &c.; also as affixed to names and titles of respectful import; as bāpū, nānā, rāva, dādā, bābā, and others, forming bāpūsāhēba &c. 5 As affixed to a respectful female compellation it is often plural and in the neuter gender; as bāīsāhēba ālīṃ tāīsāhēba gēlīṃ.
