sa sde lnga (ས་སྡེ་ལྔ) in Tibetan refers to the “Five Treatises on the Stages” (by Asaṅga).—Accordingly, [while discussing the history of the cittamātra philosophical system]: As for the history of the Cittamātrin philosophical system: Ārya Asaṅga (fourth/fifth century) founded this system. [...] In Tuṣita heaven, Asaṅga received from Maitreya the Mother Sutra, the five treatises of Maitreya, and other texts, then returned to the human realm. Asaṅga wrote the five treatises on the stages, the two compendiums, and other texts, and founded the way of the Cittamātrins. [...] After Asaṅga, the five treatises of Maitreya, the five treatises on the stages [sa sde lnga], the two compendiums, and the eight dissertations came to be known as the twenty Dharma treatises related to Maitreya.
