Rutajñāna (रुतज्ञान) refers to “knowledge of the languages” (spoken by the Devas, Nāgas, Yakṣas and Gandharvas), according to Mahāprajñāpāramitāśāstra (chapter 22, v2).—Accordingly, “Furthermore, O Subhūti, the Bodhisattva-mahāsattva in the ninth ground (sādhumatī-bhūmi) must completetly fulfill twelve dharmas. What are these twelve? [...] The knowledge of the languages [i.e., rutajñāna] spoken by the Devas, Nāgas, Yakṣas and Gandharvas. – This is by virtue of the unhindered modes of expression.
