Rūpātideśa (रूपातिदेश).—The actual replacement of the original in the place of the substitute by virtue of the rule स्थानिवदादेशोनल्विधौ (sthānivadādeśonalvidhau) P. I. 1. 56; one of the two kinds of स्थानिवद्भाव (sthānivadbhāva) wherein the word-form of the original (स्थानी (sthānī)) is put in the place of the substitute (आदेश (ādeśa)); the other kind of स्थानिवद्भाव (sthānivadbhāva) being called कार्यातिदेश (kāryātideśa) by means of which grammatical operations caused by the original (स्थानी (sthānī)) take place although the substitute (आदेश (ādeśa)) has been actually put in the place of the original. About the interpretation of the rule द्विर्वचनेचि (dvirvacaneci) P. I.1.59, the grammarians accept the view of रूपातिदेश (rūpātideśa); cf. रूपातिदेशश्चायं नियतकालस्तेन कृते द्विर्वचने पुनः आदेशरूपमे-वावतिष्ठते । पपतुः पपुः । आतो लोप इटि च इत्याकारलोपे कृते तस्य स्थानिवद्भावात् एकाचो द्बे० इति द्विर्वचनं भवति (rūpātideśaścāyaṃ niyatakālastena kṛte dvirvacane punaḥ ādeśarūpame-vāvatiṣṭhate | papatuḥ papuḥ | āto lopa iṭi ca ityākāralope kṛte tasya sthānivadbhāvāt ekāco dbe० iti dvirvacanaṃ bhavati) Kāś on P.I.1.59; cf. also रूपातिदेशश्चायम् । द्विर्वचनेचि इत्य-त्रास्य भाष्ये पाठात् । (rūpātideśaścāyam | dvirvacaneci itya-trāsya bhāṣye pāṭhāt |) Pari.
