ruḷaṇēṃ (रुळणें).—v i (ruṭa S) To roll or trail along: also to roll in, about, amongst, on: also to roll more generally. 2 (Poetry.) To shake or move gracefully; to wave or wanton about prettily;--used of ornaments, ringlets, tresses &c. Ex. pāyīṃ paiṃ- jaṇa ruḷati || bhāḷīṃ kuraḷīta kēśa ruḷati ||; also tēvī yajñōpavīta ruḷē gaḷāṃ ||. 3 To look graceful, comely, pretty; to sit upon or hang about adorningly. 4. To be crumpled or ruffled; to be as having been rolled and rubbled by wear or use--a garment, a trinket &c. 5 To be conversant with; to become habituated (quasi to have been turned or rolled about in). Note. These two senses arise from the sense of ruḷaṇēṃ v c in the passive voice. They are not themselves passive; as indicating a state attained through and beyond a passion (an action undergone) they are strictly neuter. The phrase however under ruḷaṇēṃ v c, notwithstanding that it indicates a state entered into, being but the contraction of the two past participles ruḷalēlā & maḷalēlā, is, not neuter, but passive.
