rudrayōni (रुद्रयोनि).—f (S) The name of a tubular passage through a rock near the place of performing prada- kṣiṇā outside the temple of viśvēśvara at Benares. This passage is descending, as brahmayōni is ascending. A person dying whilst in this passage becomes a rudrapiśāca. Hence brahmayōni & rudrayōni (Attics and cellar.) Applied to a residence of which some of the apartments are lofty and others beneath or on a level with the ground. 2 Applied also to any long and narrow alley or lane. See further under brahmayōni.
