Rheumatoid Arthritis is denoted by the Sanskrit terms Āmavāta and refers to one of the psychosomatic illness (adhi-vyadhi) which are characterized by predominance of psychic and emotional elements in the aetiology with manifestation of clinical features predominantly at somatic level.—Present era is the era of psychiatric problems. Systemic management of manas-roga (mental disorders) is an available in Ayurvedic classics.

Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
