rahāṭyā (रहाट्या).—a (rahāṭa) Employed or fit to be employed in working a waterwheel--a man or beast. 2 In games of play. A person that plays on both sides. 3 Applied to a vacillating person who espouses sometimes the one side and sometimes the other, a trimmer, turncoat, timeserver. 4 fig. A conductor or manager. 5 One serving (at weddings &c.) without remuneration. 6 A person pressed as a guide, carrier of burdens &c. from village to village; a carrier on of the rahāṭa (wheel or course of business).
