乞鄰 [qǐ lín] [qi lin]—
This phrase originates from The Analects of Confucius (論語 [lun yu]), 'Gongye Chang' (公冶長 [gong ye zhang]) chapter: "Who says Weisheng Gao (微生高 [wei sheng gao]) is upright? Someone asked him for vinegar, and he went to his neighbors to beg for it and gave it to the person." It refers to seeking help from neighbors (鄰人求助 [lin ren qiu zhu]). In the Ming (明 [ming]) Dynasty, Li Dongyang's (李東陽 [li dong yang]) poem 'On a Painting Depicting Wang Wei's (王維 [wang wei]) Poetic Intent' (題王維詩意圖 [ti wang wei shi yi tu]) reads: "Village smoke often begs from neighbors (多 [duo]), meals are often delivered until noon (饁餉常及午 [ye xiang chang ji wu])."
乞鄰:語本《論語.公冶長》:「孰謂微生高直?或乞醯焉,乞諸其鄰而與之。」指向鄰人求助。明.李東陽〈題王維詩意圖〉詩:「村煙多乞鄰,饁餉常及午。」
