七絕 [qī jué] [qi jue]—
A poetic form (诗体 [shi ti]). It is an abbreviation for Qiyan Jueju (七言绝句 [qi yan jue ju]). Each poem consists of four lines, with seven characters per line. There are specific rules for pingze (平仄 [ping ze]) and yayun (押韵 [ya yun]).

七絕:一種詩體。七言絕句的簡稱。每首四句,每句七字,平仄、押韻有一定格式。

To spurn (唾棄 [tuo qi], tuòqì), to break off relations (絕交 [jue jiao], juéjiāo). Tang (唐 [tang]) Dynasty. Du Fu (杜甫 [du fu]) 's poem (詩 [shi]) 'Farewell to an Old Man' (〈垂老別 [chui lao bie]〉): "Abandoned (, qìjué) a humble dwelling (蓬室居 [peng shi ju], péngshìjū), one's spirit (肺肝 [fei gan], fèigān) suddenly (塌然 [ta ran], tārán) crushed (摧 [cui], cuī)." Song (宋 [song]) Dynasty. Su Shi (蘇軾 [su shi]) 's 'Reply to Li Duanshu's Letter' (〈答李端叔書 [da li duan shu shu]〉): "Previously, I received your kind letter (惠書 [hui shu], huìshū), and then was too lazy to reply immediately, being stubbornly dull (頑鈍 [wan dun], wándùn) and neglecting etiquette (廢禮 [fei li], fèilǐ) to such an extent. Yet you, sir (足下 [zu xia], zúxià), never abandoned (, qìjué) me, and condescended (辱 [ru], rǔ) to send me another handwritten letter (手書 [shou shu], shǒushū), treating me (待遇 [dai yu], dàiyù) with even greater generosity (益隆 [yi long], yì lóng)."
