Puriṣasaṅgrahaṇīya (पुरिषसङ्ग्रहणीय) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “rendering the faeces consistent”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. It can also be spelled as Puriṣasaṃgrahaṇīya (पुरिषसंग्रहणीय). The name is derived from the words purīṣa, translating to “faeces” or “excrement”, and saṅgrahaṇīya, referring to “contracted”, “restrained”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Kātvaṅga (Colosanthes indica), Mocarasa (Bombax malabaricum), Samānaga (Mimosa pudica) and Dhātakīpuṣpa (Grislea tomentosa). The collection of herbs named Puriṣāsaṃgrahaṇīya is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
