Pūraṇānandar is the author of Śivayoga-Sāram. In the opening verse, the Siddha explains the reason for getting the epithet Pūraṇānandan to be his name. His preceptor Nāraṇa Desigar, who mastered all the scriptures and eradicated the ignorance and delusion of his disciples, was the very embodiment of jñāna, delivering the mystic message to the Siddha and christened him with the name Pūraṇānandan.
