Pṛthulalāṭa (पृथुललाट) or Pṛthulalāṭatā refers to “spacious forehead” and represents the seventy-second of the “eighty secondary characteristics” (anuvyañjana) as defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 83). The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (e.g., pṛthu-lalāṭa). The work is attributed to Nagarguna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.

Pṛthulalāṭa (पृथुललाट) refers to “broad forehead” and represents the seventy-second of the eighty minor marks of distinction (anuvyañjana) mentioned in the Sukhāvatī and following the order of the Mahāvyutpatti (269-348). In Tibetan, the characteristic called Pṛthulalāṭa is known as ‘dpral ba dbyes che ba’. The Sukhāvatī represents a prayer for rebirth which was composed by Karma chags med, a Karma bka’ brgyud master, who lived in the seventeenth century.
