Kavya (poetry)
Pravahlikā (प्रवह्लिका) or Pravalhikā refers to a “riddle”, and is mentioned in the Naiṣadha-carita 16.102.—The Puruṣakāra commentary (13th century) on Daiva (p. 123) derives the word from balha or valha (valhayati), “to speak”, [...]. The Pravalhikās in question are given in full in Śaṅkhāyanaśrautasūtra 12.22. The earliest use of this word would thus seem to be in Vedic ritual literature. Kṣīrasvāmin and Hemacandra derive the word as “pravahlate (pravalhate) prādhānyaṃ bhajate pravahlikā (pravalhikā)”, which hardly gives any meaning. The root “valha prādhānye” is mentioned by Puruṣakāra, but the latter does not connect it with pravalhikā. [...]

(-kā) A riddle, an enigma, a conundrum or charade, &c. E. pra before, valh to speak or tell, aff. kvun; the conjunet consonants of the root are transposed,: also pravahli and pravahlī, and with kan added to the latter, pravahlīkā .
