Prativākya (प्रतिवाक्य) refers to “speaking in return”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.5.2 (“The Prayer of the gods).—Accordingly, after the Gods spoke to Śiva: “On hearing these words of Indra and other heaven-dwellers who were expatiating on their distress, Śiva spoke in return (prativākya) [śivaḥ saṃbhāṣamāṇānāṃ prativākyamuvāca saḥ]”.
