1) To protect, preserve, guard, defend.

2) To wait for, await; महाराज तत् किं प्रतिपाल्यते (mahārāja tat kiṃ pratipālyate) Nāg.5.

3) To act up to, obey.

4) To nourish, foster, rear.

5) To keep, maintain, observe, follow.
