Pratipadavidhāna (प्रतिपदविधान).—Express statement by a definite wording; cf. एवं तर्हि उभयमनेन क्रियते अपवादविषये चानिवृत्तिः उत्सर्गविषये च प्रतिपदविधानम् । (evaṃ tarhi ubhayamanena kriyate apavādaviṣaye cānivṛttiḥ utsargaviṣaye ca pratipadavidhānam |) M. Bh. on III 3. 12. Vart.l: cf. also प्रतिपदविधाना च षष्ठी न समस्येत । का पुनः षष्ठी प्रतिपदविधाना का कृद्योगा । सर्वा षष्ठी प्रतिपदविधाना शेषलक्षणां वर्जयित्वा । क्रतृकर्मणोः कृति इति या षष्ठी सा कृद्योगा (pratipadavidhānā ca ṣaṣṭhī na samasyeta | kā punaḥ ṣaṣṭhī pratipadavidhānā kā kṛdyogā | sarvā ṣaṣṭhī pratipadavidhānā śeṣalakṣaṇāṃ varjayitvā | kratṛkarmaṇoḥ kṛti iti yā ṣaṣṭhī sā kṛdyogā); M. Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
