Prāthamakalpika (प्राथमकल्पिक).—Of the first type or kind; primary, as opposed to secondary; cf. अयं खल्वपि बहुव्रीहिरस्त्येव प्राथमकल्पिकां यस्मिनैकपद्यमैकस्वर्यमेकविभक्तिकत्वं च (ayaṃ khalvapi bahuvrīhirastyeva prāthamakalpikāṃ yasminaikapadyamaikasvaryamekavibhaktikatvaṃ ca), M.Bh. on P. Prāthamakalpika (प्राथमकल्पिक).—

1) A student who has just entered on the study of the Vedas (śaikṣa).

2) A Yogin just commencing his course.

Prathamakalpika (प्रथमकल्पिक).—adj. (= Sanskrit prāthama°, Manu 9.166, where v.l. pratha°; compare prāthama°), first, leading, principal, best: Gaṇḍavyūha 270.22; 307.15; 314.8 (verse) pūrvaṃgamaḥ prathamakalpika(ḥ), these two adj. being synonymous.
