The name is derived from the words prajā, translating to “semen” or “offspring”, and sthāpana, translating to “maintaining” or “preserving”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Aindri (Karivia umbellata), Śatavīrya (Cynodon dactylon), Abhyāthā (Musa sapientum) and Vātyāpuṣpī (Sida cordifolia). The collection of herbs named Prajāsthāpana is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
