Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarPrācyapadavṛtti (प्राच्यपदवृत्ति).—Succession of two vowels where the former vowel, which is either ए (e), or ओ (o) remains without coalescence with the following vowel अ (a), even though by rules it is liable to be changed; e.g.सुजाते अश्वसूनृते । अध्वर्यो अद्रिभिः सुतम् । (sujāte aśvasūnṛte | adhvaryo adribhiḥ sutam |) In such cases the vowel अ (a) is pronounced like ए. This view is held by the senior Sakalya (स्थविरशाकल्य (sthaviraśākalya)); cf. प्राच्यपञ्चाल-उपधानिभोदयाः शाकल्यस्य स्थविरस्येतरा स्थितिः (prācyapañcāla-upadhānibhodayāḥ śākalyasya sthavirasyetarā sthitiḥ), R.Pr. II.44; cf. also स पूर्वस्यार्धसदृशमेकेषाम् (sa pūrvasyārdhasadṛśamekeṣām) T. Pr.
