Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionarypōṭagaḍī (पोटगडी).—m (A term at games with sōkaṭyā) An under-player; a person subordinate and assistant to the player: also a person imagined to supply the place of a person wanting, a dummy. Hence applied elsewhere in the sense of Assistant or mate or helper out; and, also, of a person viewed as included, or as serving to fill or make up.
