To tope, tipple, guzzle, soak, swill, sot, booze, fuddle. 3 To inhale (smoke of tobacco, opium &c.), to smoke. 4 To absorb or swallow up;--as leather, wood, cloth &c. absorbs oil, paint &c. 5 To consume the priming--a gun. 6 fig. To stifle, smother, suppress, swallow (one's anger): to endure quietly, to stomach (affronts or provocations).
