毘曇宗 [pi tan zong]—Abhidharma School — [Term] This refers to the Sarvāstivāda School (薩婆多部 [sa po duo bu]) among the twenty schools of Hinayana (小乘 [xiao cheng]). This school is called the Abhidharma School because it is most proficient in various Abhidharma treatises (阿毘曇論 [a pi tan lun]), such as the Jñānaprasthāna (發智論 [fa zhi lun]) and the Six Pādas (六足論 [liu zu lun]). It holds the view that the self (我 [wo]) is non-existent, but dharmas (法 [fa]) are existent. The Kośa School (俱舍宗 [ju she zong]) is affiliated with it.

毘曇宗—【術語】小乘二十部中之薩婆多部也。此部以發智六足等諸阿毘曇論最具足,故稱毘曇宗。立我為無而法為有者也。俱舍宗屬之。
