披掛 [pī guà] [pi gua]—
1. The armor (盔甲 [kui jia]) worn by ancient people (古人 [gu ren]) when going into battle. From Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三國演義 [san guo yan yi]), Chapter 7: "Sun Ce (孫策 [sun ce]) also put on a full set of armor, holding his spear (鎗 [qiang]) and standing on horseback by his father's side." From Journey to the West (西遊記 [xi you ji]), Chapter 3: "If you have any armor here, you might as well give me a piece, and I will thank you for all of it."
2. To put on armor (盔甲 [kui jia]). From Xue Rengui's Campaign Against Liao (薛仁貴征遼事略 [xue ren gui zheng liao shi lue]): "Xue Yantuo (薛延陀 [xue yan tuo]) put on his armor, leaped onto his horse, held his spear (鎗 [qiang]) horizontally, and challenged all officials and common people." From Water Margin (水滸傳 [shui hu chuan]), Chapter 57: "Huyan Zhuo (呼延灼 [hu yan zhuo]) put on his full body armor, rode his Snow-treading Black Steed (踢雪烏騅馬 [ti xue wu zhui ma]), wielding his double whips, and charged towards Liangshan Marsh (梁山泊 [liang shan po])."
披掛:1.古人出戰時所穿戴的盔甲。《三國演義》第七回:「孫策也全副披掛,挺鎗立馬於父側。」《西遊記》第三回:「你這裡若有披掛,索性送我一件,一總奉謝。」
2.穿戴上盔甲。《薛仁貴征遼事略》:「薛延陀披掛了,躍馬橫鎗搦眾官百姓。」《水滸傳》第五七回:「呼延灼全身披掛,騎了踢雪烏騅馬,仗著雙鞭,殺逩梁山泊來。」
