phulaṇēṃ (फुलणें).—v i (phulla S) To blow or expand--a bud &c. 2 To flower or come into blossom--a tree or plant. 3 To swell--as soaked corn, as black earth, lime &c. on being wetted: also to puff out--the body or a limb. 4 To open or spread in glowing radiations--the diśā at dawn. 5 To puff up with pride; to be inflated with anger; to get elated or dilated by praise or with pleasure: also to look pleasant or be exhilarated--the countenance. 6 To spread abroad--the head or point of a nail by a hammering. 7 To become covered with white spots--a cow, horse &c. 8 To have the pile or nap gathered into little knots or lumps--cloth. 9 To become covered with eruptions (of small pox, leprosy, itch). 10 To have the hairs of one's head and whole body turned or turning white from age; to be blossoming. 11 To become disentangled, open, loose, free--the hair from being combed: to open, start up, stare;--as the hairs of a cat's tail: to open out to the air--feathers.
