Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionaryphōḍaṇēṃ (फोडणें).—v c (sphōṭana S Active of phuṭaṇēṃ) To break; to part by violence; to shatter, shiver, smash. 2 To break open; to burst by violence; to force a chasm, gap, hole, or opening (into a house, a wall, a box). 3 To break, cleave, rive, split, to dissever by blows. 4 To burst (a boil or tumor). 5 To punch or force out (the eyes). phōḍaṇēṃ is used of birds &c. and thus, apparently in the sense of plucking out, yet the sense, notwithstanding the object of the verb is ḍōḷā, nētra, nayana &c., is To break, burst, or destroy (the vision). 6 To disclose or divulge (a secret). 7 To break (buttermilk) by heating it over the fire. phōḍaṇēṃ is To break or burst open in many applications where suddenness and smartness are implied; and is contrad. from mōḍaṇēṃ & tōḍaṇēṃ which pāṇī phōḍaṇēṃ To let out water.
