See under phāvaḍēṃ Sig. II. 3 A wooden hoe-form instrument for skimming off the molasses or for drawing sugarcanejuice from the boiler into its receptacle. 4 (Commonly phāvaḍēṃ) An iron hoe or scraper. 5 A piece of wood with a support at each end, held in both hands and laid horizontally in performing the exercise daṇḍa. 6 A large or long-poled wooden hoe; to draw earth over a field, thrashed grain along the thrashing floor &c. 7 A common term for the two poles affording lateral support to the dāṇḍī (of a nāṅgara, kuḷava, kōḷapēṃ, plough, harrow, cart &c.) 8 Low. A disastrous or distressful condition, a pickle, plight, mess, trim.
