Pha-gol or Pha-khol is the Tibetan name for Vāgbhaṭa: the author of three voluminous works in the medical literature of the Hindus.—Other forms are Bābhaṭa (Bengal) and Vāhaṭa (South India). The Tibetans have reproduced the name with Pha-gol or Pha-khol, which comes nearest to the Bengali spelling.
