Perialwar (6th-7th Century A.D.)—Perialwar was born in Srivilliputtoor, Tamil Nadu, India, in a Brahmin family. His original name was Vishnuchitta. He was the foster parent of the famous Andal, whose birth date has been ascribed to the middle 7th century by scholars. We can hence safely assume Perialwar to have been born some time in the late 6th century or early 7th century A.D. Perialwar was fascinated by the childhood exploits of Sri Krishna and developed devotion and love for God, incarnated as Krishna. And he sang of Krishna, the child deity, with maternal love. He was more concerned about the welfare of child Krishna than his own! Because his love and devotion excelled that of other Alwars, he was named Perialwar or the Great Alwar.
