Source: archive.org: Catalogue of Pancaratra Agama TextsPavitrāropaṇaprāyaścitta (पवित्रारोपणप्रायश्चित्त) or “expiatory rites for the garlanding ceremony (and others)” is the name of the ninth chapter of the Agastyasaṃhitā (agastya-brahma-saṃvāda edition), an ancient Pāñcarātra Āgama text dealing with typical Pāñcarātra concepts such as the Vyūhas.—Description of the chapter [pavitrāropaṇa-prāyaścitta]: Brahmā attempts to define “prāyaścitta” as a compound of “prāyaḥ” (meaning “evil”) and “citta” (meaning “making good for”). The bulk of the chapter deals with occasions when prāyaścitta is necessary, and how to go about the atonement rites—for examples: mistakes in daily worship, errors in conducting festival occasions, omissions in such rites as snapana and pavitrāropaṇa, etc.
