It might be described as the book of causes, and deals with the twenty four paccayas or modes of relations between things, mental and material. Its Commentary was written by Buddhaghosa at the request of a monk called Culla Buddhaghosa.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
