pāṭēsa (पाटेस).—m C (pāṭha & āṃsa, or pṛṣṭhavaṃśa S) The ridge of a roof. pāṭha m (S) Reading the Vedas; considered as one of the five great sacraments. 2 Reading in general. 3 A lesson; a portion of instruction received from the Guru. 4 A reading, a variation of copies: also a form of spelling of a word, i. e. a reading: also the name of the mark (?) which is made over words of different but equally received modes of spelling. 5 See paripāṭha which form of the word is more general.
