Source: University of Cambridge: JainismParyantārādhanāsūtra (पर्यन्ताराधनासूत्र) by Somasūri is the 12th Prakīrṇaka of the Śvetāmbara canon belonging to the so-called “supernumerary” prakīrṇakas. It deals with “the last period of a religious life before voluntary death” (Balbir 2006 vol 2: p. 176). The manuscript was written by Meghajī, son of Sūracanda in Sthambhatīrtha (mod. Kambhat in Gujarat) in 1619 CE for himself.
Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance’) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
