Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyPārthivāgni (पार्थिवाग्नि, “fire of ether”):—One of the five elemental fires (bhutāgni).—A Sanskrit technical term from Āyurveda (Indian medicine) and used in literature such the Carakasaṃhitā and the Suśrutasaṃhitā. This ‘fire’, or, agnī, is related to pṛthivī (the earth element) and is responsible for separting earthly atoms from partially broken down food-particles. These are then offered as nutrients to the sense organ of smell in the nose.
Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
