Paripā (परिपा).—I. 1 P. To drink; उपनिषदः परिपीताः (upaniṣadaḥ paripītāḥ) Bv.2.4. -II. 2 P.

1) To protect, preserve, guard, defend against; पुण्यात्षड्भागमादत्ते न्यायेन परिपालयन् । सर्वदानाधिकं यस्मात्प्रजानां परिपालनम् (puṇyātṣaḍbhāgamādatte nyāyena paripālayan | sarvadānādhikaṃ yasmātprajānāṃ paripālanam) || Y.1.335; Manusmṛti 9.251.

2) To rule, govern; Mālatīmādhava (Bombay) 1.25.

3) To bring up, nourish, support.

4) To keep to, observe, adhere to, persevere in; अङ्गीकृतं सुकृतिनः परिपालयन्ति (aṅgīkṛtaṃ sukṛtinaḥ paripālayanti) Ch. P.5.
