When the Buddha was staying in a forest near Parileyya, some monks asked Ananda to take them to him. This he did, and the Buddha, reading the thoughts of certain monks, preached a sermon on the destruction of the asavas by the full realization of impermanence and the absence of any self. S.iii.95ff.
