Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationPāpahārika (पापहारिक) refers to “that which dispel sins”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.54 (“Description of the duties of the chaste wife”).—Accordingly, as a Brahmin lady said to Pārvatī: “[...] O daughter of the lord of mountains, thus the duty of a chaste wife is described to you. Now, listen to their classifications with attention and love. O gentle lady, the chaste ladies can be divided into four classes. Even when they are remembered they dispel sins (pāpahārika). The divisions comprise of the superior etc. They are superior, middling, inferior and very inferior. [...]”.
