pāṅgharūṇa (पांघरूण).—n (prāvaraṇa S) A cloth in general to throw over or to wear loosely around the body,--as a shawl, cloak, mantle, sheet. 2 pl Clothes, dress, articles of apparel. Ex. paraṭākaḍacīṃ pāṅgharuṇēṃ ālīṃ nāhīnta. 3 Applied fig. to one's parents, patron, guardian &c. Ex. rājā rājyācēṃ pāṃ0; āī hēṃ mulāñcēṃ pāṃ0. pāṃ0 karaṇēṃ To put on one's clothes; to dress one's self. This phrase is vulgar, pertaining mainly to the servants of Europeans, in agreement with the equally vulgar Hindustani The proper verbs are ghālaṇēṃ & ghēṇēṃ. pāṃ0 ghālaṇēṃ as used figuratively is To cover over or hush up (faults or follies); to palliate or cloak.
