Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA brahmin of Pandulagama, rich and learned in the Vedas. He taught Pandukabhaya, advised him in the choice of a wife, gave him one hundred thousand with which to raise an army, and allowed his son Canda to accompany him as his friend and counsellor. Mhv.x.20ff.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
