pandharā (पंधरा).—a (pāñca & dāhā) Fifteen.

pāṇḍhara (पांढर).—f The whole community or body of a village; whether as assembled (as in matters of general concernment) or as considered collectively. 2 The tract or region of a village; the space occupied, circumscribed, or appertaining. Ex. hyā pāṇḍharīcēṃ pāṇī kōṇhāsa bādhaṇāra nāhīṃ; hyā pāṇḍharīnta pāṅkharūṃ dēkhīla yēta nāhīṃ. 3 The divinity, presiding genius, or tutelar spirit (of a village or of the village-soil). Ex. hī gōṣṭa tū karatōsa pāṇḍharīsa sōsa- ṇāra nāhīṃ; tulā pāṃ0 pāhūna ghēīla; yandā pāṇḍharīnēṃ hāta dilhā; pāṇḍharīnēṃ pīka sōḍalēṃ. 4 Village-land appropriated; a village-farm or any villager's field. Ex. mī āpalī pāṃ0 ōsāḍa ṭākīna; tujhēṃ gurūṃ mājhyā pāṇḍharīnta ālēṃ tara. 5 Peopledness, peopled state or form; as disting. from Openness or unoccupied form of space. Ex. ēthūna pāṃ0 uṭhalī or ōsāḍa paḍalī; tēthēṃ pāṃ0 vasalī. 6 (pāṇḍura S) White soil, 7 pāṇḍhara as contrad. from kāḷī (The black, i. e. arable, region) is Village-site. (this site being ordinarily on white earth). 8 A tract of white soil as occurring here and there in the usual kāḷī ground. 9 Duties on, or revenue arising from, commodities or chattels, excise.
