Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraPañcadoṣa (पञ्चदोष) or Doṣa refers to the “five faults” of a singer according to the Nāṭyaśāstra 32.519-525:—“The five faults of a singer are that his voice (lit. he) may be Kapila, unsteady, Sandaṣṭa (bitten), Kākī (crow-like), and Tumbakī (nasal)... These are the essential facts about the qualities, and faults of voice, related by me”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
