India history and geography
Source: Shodhganga: Legacy of Buddhism in BengalPaharpur is the name of ancient Buddhist centre corresponding with Somapura.—Paharpur, “hill-town”, apparently owes its name to the loftiness of its ruins (presenting the appearance of a pāhāḍ or hill), mainly of the main sanctuary of the place, rising 70 ft. above the flat land. The ruins of the Somapura monastery have been identified with those at Paharpur (lat. 25° 2' N.; long. 89° 3' E.; District Rajshahi, East Pakistan), 3 miles away from the Jamalganj railway-station.

The history of India traces the identification of countries, villages, towns and other regions of India, as well as mythology, zoology, royal dynasties, rulers, tribes, local festivities and traditions and regional languages. Ancient India enjoyed religious freedom and encourages the path of Dharma, a concept common to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism.
