pāhaṇēṃ (पाहणें).—v c & i To look, behold, view, contemplate. 2 To see. 3 To perceive in general; to seek or to obtain cognition through any of the senses. 4 To look after; to attend to; to mind. 5 To regard, observe, consider, note, heed; to give attention to. Ex. paiśākaḍē pāhū nayē guṇāṅkaḍē yōgyatēkaḍē pāhāvēṃ. 6 To examine, prove, determine by test or trial. 7 To inspect, survey, review. 8 To look for; to search or seek after. Ex. kāmācyā vēḷēsa pāhāvā tō kōṭhēṃ nāhīṃ jēvāyālā mātra tēvaḍhā sattēcā yētō. 9 To desire; to seek or look (-to speak-go-come-act or do generally). Ex. hā tulā bōlūṃ pāhatō; hā jāūṃ-yēūṃ-basūṃ-uṭhūṃ-jēvūṃ- mārūṃ-karūṃ pāhatō He seeks, looks, or stands ready to speak-go-come &c. 10 pāhaṇēṃ is much used with verbs of Trying or experimenting, examining or inspecting, investigating or inquiring, tasting, weighing, comparing &c., as subsidiary or supplementary to the sense. Ex. kasūna pāhaṇēṃ, ajamā- vūna pāhaṇēṃ, tapāsūna-paḍatāḷūna-cākhūna-khāūna-jōkhūna tōlūna-vaḷakhūna-pāhaṇēṃ. pāhataarthīṃ or pāhatāarthīṃ, pāhilēṃ asatāṃ, pāhilyā- arthīṃ If we consider; upon consideration or reflection. Ex. tyāsa śikṣā dēṇēṃ pāhilēṃ asatāṃ kāṃhīṃ kāraṇa nāhīṃ. pāhūna ghēṇēṃ To call to account.
