pagadastī (पगदस्ती).—a sometimes pagadasta a (paga A square of the chess-board, P The hand. The hand once touching a square.) That mode of playing chess, when a piece, once fairly placed, must be left. Hence fig. Immovable, unalterable--a determination, declaration, promise: also attrib. the person. 2 Cautious, circumspect, wary, wily, not readily entrapped (esp. in speech): also that entraps or catches (one in his speech). pagadastīṃ or pagadastīnta dharaṇēṃ-āṇaṇēṃ To catch one in his speech. pagadastīṃ &c. sāmpaḍaṇēṃ To be caught &c.
