Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper Names(or Pundarika) Sutta. Once a monk, living in a forest tract in Kosala, returned from his alms round and, plunging into a lotus pool, deeply inhaled the perfume of the lotus. A deva of the forest, wishing to agitate him, called him a thief, and engaged him in conversation. S.i.204f.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
